  • The American Heart Association is now recommending that physicians, when treating pain, start with non-pharmacological treatments such as physical therapy and exercise, weight loss to reduce stress on joints, and heat or cold therapy instead of NSAIDs. Accumulating evidence shows that NSAIDs , with the exception of aspirin, increase the risk for heart attack and stroke.
