What is Physical Therapy?
Physical therapy is often a mystery to many people. Most people in Murrieta and Temecula have probably never experienced physical therapy firsthand and have very little idea of what happens in physical therapy. Some people even come to therapy feeling that they're wasting their time; sure that therapy has nothing to offer them and their condition (these people often become our biggest cheerleaders).
In the most basic sense, physical therapy works to restore function to people's bodies. Therapy can help reduce pain, improve movement/balance, and restore physical abilities. Therapy, unlike prescription medications, is designed to eliminate and solve problems. Therapy does not simply work to mask symptoms.
Who Are Physical Therapists?
PPhysical therapists are trained to be experts in dealing with problems of the muscle, nervous and skeletal systems. Most physical therapists are educated at a masters degree level or greater. We utilize natural means to help people regain their health. Once you have experienced high quality physical therapy, we are confident that you will become a believer.
Why Try Physical Therapy?
While physical therapy is incapable of curing all problems, recent medical research is showing that physical therapy is a highly effective choice for treating many conditions. In fact, physical therapy has been shown to be as effective as surgery for many serious musculoskeletal problems. Another outstanding part of physical therapy is that we are one of the few specialties that still provides hands-on-care to our patients. At Fast Track, in the Murrieta Temecula Valley, we spend time listening to our patients in order to make sure that we fully understand their problems and their expected outcomes. We work to educate our patients regarding their current condition. We explain how the injury probably occurred, what can currently be done to solve the problem, and we discuss what can be done to avoid a future recurrence. Most importantly, we focus on a solution to your problem. We do not mask your pain or simply treat the symptoms. Instead we work to alleviate your problem permanently.
Many professional groups such as the American Medical Association (AMA), the American Heart Association, and the American Arthritis Foundation now strongly recommending physical therapy as the first choice to solve many medical problems.

What Happens in Physical Therapy?
Physical therapists have many tools at their disposal to help you with your current problem. We utilize techniques such as massage in order to loosen tight tissues, improve blood flow and reduce pain and injured tissues. We perform stretching activities in order to restore the proper flexibility to restricted areas. Joint mobilization is utilized in order to improve the movement between two or more bones and is also beneficial in reducing pain. Physical therapists utilize electrical equipment designed to reduce swelling/pain and promote healing of injured tissues. Therapeutic exercises are administered to restore strength and blood flow to weaken/injured muscles. Special neurologic procedures are utilized to help people's bodies regain proper movement patterns and balance. Gait training is performed to help improve and normalized people's ability to walk. These are the most common tools and techniques we utilize in Murrieta and Temecula to help our patients regain their health. There are other techniques and tools that physical therapists employ as needed.
What Do I Need to Do to Start Physical Therapy?
In order for your physical therapy to be covered by your insurance, you will need to have a prescription from your physician. Once you have a prescription, you may receive care from the physical therapy provider of your choice (even if the prescription is written on the stationary of another provider).
Choosing the Right Physical Therapy Provider
In the Murrieta Temecula Valley, finding the right physical therapy provider is an important, but difficult, decision. There are numerous physical therapy practices from which to choose. - How much time will I spend, each visit, with the licensed physical therapist. (Each visit, you should see the therapist for a minimum of 30 minutes.)
- Will I always see the same physical therapist each visit? (You should expect to see the same provider each visit.)
- Will the majority of my care be administered by a physical therapist, physical therapy assistant, or a physical therapy aide. (You want the majority of your treatment be performed by a physical therapist as they have the highest level of education.)
