How much do like your current job?  Do you feel like going to work every day?  Have you ever called in sick or missed work without a good reason? Most of us take work fairly seriously.  The consequences of not working are fairly serious.  You could end up homeless and/or without food. With this kind of motivation, it's easy to see why most people have a good attendance record for their jobs.  Even a lousy employee probably won't miss more than one to two weeks per year of work.

We know that having food and shelter is a pretty high priority for most individuals.  There is one priority, however, that we should rank even higher and that's our health.  Compared to health, most other priorities seem unimportant.

Imagine, you've just won the lottery.  You now have the financial ability to achieve everything you've ever dreamed.  You're living the life you've always wanted.  But then, suddenly, you have a severe stroke that causes you to be bed or wheelchair-bound.  Or perhaps, you become diabetic and end up losing your vision or have a limb amputated.  Worse yet, perhaps you have a heart attack and die.  I know that these are rather extreme examples but I use them to illustrate a point.  There is nothing more important than taking care of your health.

Why is it then that when it comes to health, most people place it at the bottom of the priority list. Exercise becomes that component of your day that is given lowest priority. If you get a break during your day, maybe you can fit it in.  But then during the day things come up, people call, errands have to be run and lo and behold there is no time to get to the gym after work. That's okay you say, I'll simply do it tomorrow.  But then tomorrow comes and with it new interruptions and priorities take precedence over your exercise program.  Days turn into months, months turn into years and that exercise program is still not being performed.

Unfortunately, most people do not recognize the importance of their health until after it's gone.  It is time to take exercise and your health more seriously.  You need to treat exercise as you do your job.  When the alarm clock goes off in the morning, certainly there are times that you do not want to go to work.  But because it is important, you get up and go whether you want to or not.

If you want to truly succeed at sticking with an exercise program this is the level of importance that you must give exercise.  There can be no other higher priority.  You need to make sure you get your exercise done in front of all other obligations. There will always be situations and circumstances that come up. There will be times when you don't feel like going but you must remember the big picture. Without your health your quality of life will deteriorate significantly.

It is time to start your new job.  Start exercising consistently and simply make it a part of your regular routine that cannot be skipped. If you can show up for work consistently, you can exercise consistently.
